Dangote Refinery 'the largest African Refinery" commissioned

Dangote Refinery complex which started over a decade ago was commissioned on 22nd of May 2023 by President Muhammad Buhari and a host of other eminent Nigerians and foreigners. The refinery is said to have the longest pipeline infrastructure (1100km ) in the world, and can deal with about 3 billion standard cubic foot of gas per day.The project cost him about $19bn to complete.High dollar rates and a volatile economy shot the initial target investment from $13bn to $19bn.The refinery has an installed capacity of  about 650,000 barrels per day

The factory will produce petrol, fertilizer, diesel, aviation fuel, kerosene and other crude associated products.Production of  products will start on August 2023.It has an independent power plant that would supply about 435 mega watts to the complex. The power plant has 8 gas turbines and 4 steam turbines.

During the commissioning in his words Dangote stated that' This mega industry we are commissioning today is a clear example of what can be achieved when entrepreneurs are encouraged and supported and when an enabling environment is created for investment and for business to thrive.

Dangote refinery is coming at a time where Nigeria spent about $23bn in imports of petroleum products last year. The plant plans to export surplus petrol. The reality is that the refinery would turn Lagos nay Nigeria a hydrocarbon hub.Nigeria would rely less on European refined petroleum products thereby saving the government billions of dollars.
